The Best MOLLE Holster Systems (Tactical & Kydex)
MOLLE which simply stands for MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. The acronym was thought up by the US Military. The cool thing about it is the ability to attach gear to to gear with the use of the webbing and special strapping. The best MOLLE holster should be able to do just this.
The purpose of a MOLLE holster is to easily attach to other MOLLE gear such as chest rigs, vests, drop leg panels, belts, etc. As well as this these holsters need to be durable and will usually come in desert or camo based colors.
Condor VT Holster
The Condor Vertical holster is very well adjustable and goes perfectly with a MOLLE Condor Recon Chest Rig. The great thing is that it's universal and will fit just about any gun you can think of. This includes most pistols that come with lasers or use flashlights. All you have to do is adjust the strap and extend it out a little further to fit larger size pistols. This is a feature we love!
The Condor VT also features a MOLLE attachment webbing at the back. Being the vertical version there are 2 vertical MOLLE straps that are retained by buttons. The velcro, fasteners, stitching and materials are all top quality especially for a holster in this price range. You shouldn't have any troubles with the holster falling apart on you any time soon. It also comes in different colors, Black, MultiCam, Olive Drab, and Coyote.
Overall this is a nice little holster that can be added to a chest rig.
OneTigris Tactical MOLLE Pistol Holster and Mag Pouch
The OneTigris Tactical holster comes with a vertical MOLLE system at the back making it easy to attach to a MOLLE belt or even just a regular belt. The snap is velcro and can be adjusted with a bit of pulling to adjust it to your specific gun. The velcro on it is super heavy and the double stitching is really strong too.
A great feature of this OneTigris holster is that it comes with a magazine pouch. The pouch can also be used for other items like a small flashlight.
The double locking mechanism works well, with a press stud that goes over the top of the gun, and a quick release buckle lock which goes over the pistol grip. Your gun will stay secured via 3 ways; the press stud, an extra velcro strap, and the quick release buckle. This does a great job of securing the pistol. The only downside is that you won't be getting your weapon out in a hurry.
Overall the feel of this holster is really nice and the quality is evident. It is a well put together and perfectly constructed holster. It's also extremely aesthetically pleasing, one of the best looking MOLLE holsters you will find.
Cytac Holster with MOLLE Adapter
Although not a standart MOLLE holster, the Cytac holster is a great and inexpensive option when paired with the MOLLE adapter. It comes in many popular gun size options such as the Glock 19, 1911, and many more.
The holster itself is made of high quality, durable polymer which has extreme temperature tolerance. The back features a very bendy and flexible silicon paddle. There's also a nice quick release feature and it comes with an allen key for adjusting. Another cool feature is that it can rotate 360 degrees on the paddle so the angle of carry can be adjusted quite easily.
Now the reason this holster is included here is because when it's paired with the Cytac MOLLE Adapter it makes for an effective MOLLE holster.
When the holster is attached to the adapter it can be worn vertically, cross draw, or in the horizontal position on the vest or drop leg panel. The adapter, made out of a silicon style plastic is fairly durable and has a lot of give and flexibility. When attaching the adapter it takes up 3 rows of MOLLE webbing.
Overall, it's not our first choice when looking MOLLE holsters but it this combination does the job. It's one of the best Glock 19 MOLLE holster setups and will work well with other guns too. Just make sure to pick the correct sized holster.
Attaching a Kydex Holster to MOLLE - Do It Yourself
Obviously if you have a kydex holster and wish to attach it to MOLLE you can always just go out and buy an adapter to do this. This will work in a similar way to the Cytac holster mentioned earlier even though this holster isn't kydex. However, if you don't want to buy any extra adapters there are ways you can do this to give yourself a MOLLE kydex holster. Here are a few ways:
Closing Thoughts
MOLLE holsters are a great type of holster for tactical use. They should be light in weight, modular and easy to attach, and most importantly they should be durable. There are options such as buying MOLLE attachments for kydex or silicon type holsters and this can work well. We still think it's best to stick to a completely MOLLE holster all-round.
This is why our recommendation as the overall best MOLLE holster option is the Condor VT Holster. It ticks all the boxes being light, modular, extremely durable, and very minimalistic. The best part is that it's universal and will most likely fit your gun.
